Hi Steve!

What a great post! I saw the trackback notice flash across my screen and went right to it. I was laughing outloud at your stories, not in mockery but in solidarity. Some of my most humiliating moments have come in cross-cultural settings.

One favorite, which I didn't mention in my original post, is when I was conducting a training session in Holland for an important corporate client. I mistook my Dutch host's slight forward lean as a move to do the "European kiss greeting" so I planted a big smacker on his cheek. Actually, he was reaching out to shake my hand. I felt like a 12 year old girl. I still get red cheeks when I think about it.

Congratulations on your very successful cross-cultural meeting! And thanks for pointing others to my post. I have learned tons from the comments that have rolled in from all over the world.

All the best,

-Pam

Thanks for checking in, Pam, and the "European Kiss Greeting" story has me laughing now.

Did you kiss once, twice, or three times?
