Steve,
very good quote.

Technically the first two sentences are not necessarily true: it deeply depends on which kind of 'learner' you are. If you are a 'visual' guy, it's ok. If you are more 'auditive', it might not be optimum for you.
And yes, the majority of people are 'visual' .. and yes the prover gives perfectly the idea :)

Hi, Pier,

Si.

I was wondering if anyone with NLP background or other frameworks would want to delve more deeply into the sequence. Indeed, we need to know the particulars of a specific learner as well. That said, I think the proverb holds up pretty well after so many years, eh?

Grazie mille!

Hi Steve

I prefer this one (Benjamin Franklin):

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn"

Same principle, same simplicity ;-)

Karin H. (Keep It Simple Sweetheart, specially in business)

Karin,

Well, this is a little embarrassing.

It takes someone from The Netherlands, living in the U.K., to feed a resource to a guy whose family has lived in Philadelphia since 1683

Do you think maybe the Chinese actually heard Ben say it first?

I eat, therefore I'm fat. Sorry, couldn't resist. I especially like the last sentence. Implementing gathered knowledge leads to more knowledge. And hopefully, more implementing.

Robyn,

Wow, I haven't seen the culinary-existential mix before. This is newly gathered knowledge...

"I do...and I learn"
"Involve me and I understand"

The reason for this is because acting causes rewiring of the brain.

Dr Ellen Weber of BrainBasedBusiness.com says, "Due to the brain’s constant wiring and rewiring and unwiring, people literally become what they do. Notice I did say you’ll become what you think … because it’s all about action."
http://www.brainbasedbusiness.com/2008/07/scowl_and_change_your_brains_c.html

and...

"Rewiring in the human brain occurs when the brain is stimulated … and when we remain passive far less rewiring occurs. So to improve and change is to remain active and attentive to the world around us."

Dr. Weber's blog is one of my favorites to read on the Brain.
